A&O FAQ

How does A&O choose who comes to campus?

Booking for our events are done by our Speakers and Concerts committees.  These groups meet regularly and make decisions based on which artists are available, when, and for how much.  They exercise their best musical taste, but always base their decisions on the wishes of the student body.

How does A&O decide ticket policy?  What is A&O’s current policy?

While different acts sometimes dictate different policies, we do have a set of guidelines that we follow.  We generally sell more than 1 ticket per person so that students with conflicts can still have a friend purchase a ticket on their behalf, always work to sell as many as possible and maintain the most up-to-date ticketing information on our website.  We always work to ensure that as many students as possible attend our events, and strongly discourage scalping.

How does A&O get their money?

A&O’s primary source of funding is money allocated to A&O by the Student Activities Finance Board.  The SAFB distributes the Student Activities Fee, part of all undergrads tuition, to student groups and oversees the spending of such funds.  A&O also funds other events through the Northwestern Alumni Association or other special funding.

Are A&O events only for students or can my friends come down from __________?

Because most A&O events are heavily subsidized by the SAF, which is part of undergrad tuition, most of our events are required to be open to only Northwestern students.  We do reserve the right to check WildCards at the door to ensure that all in attendance are in fact Northwestern students.

How can I join A&O?

Our application cycle occurs during fall quarter each year, so keep your eyes open for applications then!

You guys do Dillo Day, right?

Nope, that’s Mayfest!

What else does A&O do besides concerts?

We show films! Only $3 on Fridays/Saturdays and FREE on Sundays.

Why should I go to Norris to watch a movie?

Several reasons!  First, because we show many of our movies before they’re out on DVD.  Second, because we show many on 35mm film, so it’s theatre quality.  And last, because they’re WAY cheaper than going to the theatre.

Where can I find the most up-to-date information on A&O’s events?  Your website right?

You bet.
